DJ Just Nine
Kenichi Thomas (aka DJ Just Nine) has been exploring music without regard for genres from a young age. That expansive taste, plus a desire to perfect the craft of DJing has earned him notable achievements like touring with Atmosphere; serving as I Self Devine’s tour DJ for five years; and performing on high-profile stages like Rock The Bells, SxSW, Low End Theory, Afropunk Festival, 2018’s Super Bowl Live, and Soundset. Just Nine currently holds down the decks for Minneapolis hip hop artist Greg Grease, countless club nights throughout the Twin Cities, and as a founding member of the future-funk band Astralblak (formerly known as ZULUZULUU). Together with Astralblak, he has released two albums on Sound Verite Records (2016’s “What’s The Price” and 2018’s “Seeds”).
Brenda Azueta
Brenda was born and raised in Mexico City, with training in journalism, radio, and photography. She loves Latin alternative music and shares it as a DJ and co-host on KFAI’s Radio Pocho. You can find her taking pictures at concerts and festivals or doing photo shoots all over the Twin Cities…once she gets a camera in her hands, she is in another galaxy.
Michel.Be
With family roots in Chicago, and raised on the Southside of Minneapolis, Michel.Be comes from the power of Jazz, revolutionary Soul & Funk, Hip Hop, House, and altogether music of the African Diaspora. Michel.Be continues to evoke spiritual power through music while creating positive dance spaces and artistic opportunities for Womyn, Transgender, Gender Non-conforming, and Queer People of Color.
Jon Jon Scott
Jon Jon is a Southside fixture. He’s been a familiar face behind the counter at Electric Fetus for a couple decades, passing out music advice to anyone wise enough to ask. He’s also president of Sound Verite Records (home to Greg Grease, Mujah Messiah, Sarah White, and ZuluZuluu), a longtime blogger/tastemaker, and host of Sound Verite Radio on KFAI.
